David Tanenholz has been a leader in the eDiscovery field since founding this unique discovery counsel law firm in 2006. He has overseen the end-to-end execution of dozens of complex document reviews and productions for clients in a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical, medical devices manufacturers, financial services, and hospitality services. Serving as discovery counsel, David advises clients in planning for efficient and cost effective document reviews, drafting substantive review training manuals, addressing confidentiality, HIPAA and privilege issues, selecting and managing eDiscovery support services, creating budget forecasts and tracking legal spend. The pioneering discovery management and cost-containment techniques that he and his firm developed have been featured in articles on Above the Law and The Baltimore Business Journal.

David is an experienced litigator whose practice involves all aspects of eDiscovery in complex commercial litigation and government investigations. As a litigator, he understands the role in which discovery response planning, proper document production, and budgeting play in litigation. By closely tracking developments in early case assessment and review technology, discovery law, and ethics opinions, David is able to counsel clients on the interplay of such issues and leverage emerging technologies to cut discovery costs without sacrificing the quality of the final work product. David has always recognized that both eDiscovery expertise and technical project management skills are crucial components of defensible discovery, and the firm’s focus on all stages of the discovery process reflects this philosophy. Before co-founding the firm, he was a litigator at Reed Smith LLP for six years, where he performed legal research, writing, and discovery tasks in general civil litigation cases, including civil rights, commercial contract, products liability, average wholesale pricing litigation, and antitrust cases.

David earned his law degree from George Washington University Law School and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland.
